Karnataka Post Graduate Common Entrance Test is a state-level entrance exam held for admission into first-year full time/part-time MBA/MCA/ M.Arch/ M.Tech/ME and second year (lateral entry) of the MCA programme.
The entrance exam is held by the Karnataka Examination Authority. Those who have qualified the GATE 2019 need not appear for this entrance exam and can directly apply for admissions.
Eligibility
Subject-wise criteria:
- MBA
- Reservation is only for candidates from Karnataka.
- Rounding off aggregate percentage is not allowed.
Full-time
- The candidate must have a recognized Bachelor’s degree or a degree from an equivalent examination
- The candidate from the General category must score 50% marks and those from the SC/ST/Category-I of Karnataka must score 45% marks at the UG level.
Part-time
- The candidate must have a recognized Bachelor’s degree or a degree from an equivalent examination
- The candidate from the General category must score 50% marks and those from the SC/ST/Category-I of Karnataka must score 45% marks at the UG level.
- The candidate must have a minimum of three years work experience (as on July 31, 2019).
2. MCA
Full-time & Lateral Entry to second year MCA
Full-time/Part-time:
- The candidate must have a recognized Bachelor’s degree or a degree from an equivalent examination
- The candidate must have studied any one of these subjects at the UG/undergraduate level – Maths/ Statistics/Computer Science/Computer Applications/ Computer Programming/Business Mathematics/ Business Statistics.
- The candidate from the General category must score 50% marks and those from the SC/ST/Category-I of Karnataka must score 45% marks at the UG level.
Lateral Entry:
- The candidate must have a recognized Bachelor’s degree in BCA/ B.Sc (IT/Computer Science) (+) Mathematics in 10+2/Graduate level
- The candidate from the General category must score 50% marks and those from the SC/ST/Category-I of Karnataka must score 45% marks at the UG level.
ME/M.Tech./M.Arch.
Full-time
- The candidate must have a valid GATE score/a recognized Bachelor’s degree of minimum three years
- The candidate from the General category must score 50% marks and those from the SC/ST/Category-I of Karnataka must score 45% marks at the UG level.
Part-time
- The candidate must have a recognized Bachelor’s degree of a minimum of three years
- The candidate from the General category must score 50% marks and those from the SC/ST/Category-I of Karnataka must score 45% marks at the UG level.
- The candidate must have a minimum of three years of work experience (as on July 31, 2019)
- Reservation** is only for candidates belonging to Karnataka
**Reservation policy
- 70% seats in every course/programme are reserved for local candidates who belong to the Hyderabad-Karnataka region (Bidar, Gulbarga, Yadgir, Raichur, Koppal and Bellary).
- Eligible candidates need to produce a certificate from the Assistant Commissioner during document/certificate verification.
- SC/ST and Category-I candidates of Karnataka can avail reservation.
- Wards of ex-servicemen should obtain a certificate showing the home address of the parent issued by the Joint Director/Deputy Director of the concerned district and countersigned by the Director, Department of Sainik Welfare and Resettlement, Bangalore. This reservation benefit does not apply to M.E./M.Tech/M.Arch courses.
- Person with Disability (PwD): 3% of total seats in Government and Government-aided colleges are reserved for those who have 40% or more disability.
